Overview
The workspace at a glance: a board of widgets, one per section, each showing today's headline number and a link into the section itself.
Where: capsule → Overview (/home). It always shows, for every role — it is where sign-in lands you, and it is the one entry the capsule never hides.
Who can do what
| Role | On Overview |
|---|---|
| Viewer | Everything on this screen: reading every widget it is shown, and rearranging the board |
| Operator | + nothing extra |
| Manager | + nothing extra |
| Admin | + nothing extra |
The board only reads and only rearranges itself — no widget changes the fleet. A number you want to act on is a link: it opens the section that owns it, and the section is where the work happens.
At a glance
Six widgets, each a small piece of a section:
| Widget | Shows | Links to |
|---|---|---|
| Open work orders | Counts by status (open, closed, cancelled) and the cost of everything still open | Maintenance |
| Fleet utilization | Counts of units in yard, on rig, in repair, in inspection | Utilization |
| Expiring compliance | Counts of certificates expired, expiring soon, valid | Compliance |
| Recent activity | The five newest rows of your notification feed | Notifications |
| Overdue invoices | How many invoices are overdue, and the overdue and outstanding totals by currency | Invoices |
| Ready to bill | How many clients and how many lines are sitting unbilled | Invoices |
A widget shows no numbers of its own beyond what its section already tracks — Overview adds no new counting, only a shortcut to counting that exists elsewhere.
Key concepts
A widget needs the section's permission
Each widget belongs to a section — Open work orders to Maintenance, Fleet utilization to Utilization, and so on. A widget for a section you cannot open does not appear grayed out and does not appear at all: the board simply has one fewer tile. Recent activity is the one exception, because the notification feed itself has no section of its own — anyone signed in sees it.
A department can also tidy the board: an admin unticks a widget in the department's View (see Set a department's view), and everyone whose home department it is gets a board without that tile. There is no department switch on Overview, so the home department decides.
If your board looks emptier than a colleague's, that is a difference in what your role or department can see, not a fault on this screen — see Roles & access.
The layout is yours and it follows you
The order and size of the widgets are saved to your own account on the server, the same way the columns you choose on a list are. Sign in on another computer and the board is arranged the way you left it — nothing is kept only in this browser.
A widget that stops being available to you — a right that was withdrawn, a feature turned off for your department — drops off the board rather than leaving a gap. A widget that becomes available later joins at the end, so a new widget always reaches everyone it should instead of hiding behind a layout you saved months ago.
A widget you remove is waiting, not gone
Removing a widget from your board (see Add or remove a widget) does not turn it off for you the way a department's View does. It sits in your Add widget palette instead, ready to come back with one click — the same widget a department unticks for everyone disappears from that palette too, because there is nothing left to add back.
How to
Rearrange the board
Who: Viewer and above.
Take hold of a widget by its header, not by the body of the card — the body carries the links and numbers you read, so only the header doubles as the handle.
- Mouse or pen: press on the header and drag; the widget follows the pointer, and the rest of the board slides out of the way to show where it will land.
- Touch: press and hold the header for a moment before you drag — a quick tap still opens the widget, it takes a short hold to pick it up, and once it lifts the page stops scrolling under your finger.
- Keyboard: tab to a widget's header until the handle is focused, then hold Alt and press an arrow key. Right or Down moves the widget one step later in the board, Left or Up moves it one step earlier; each press moves it exactly one place further, skipping any step that would leave the board looking unchanged.
Release, or let go of the key, and the new order is saved right away — there is no separate save step.
Result: the board keeps the new order and the same sizes, and it is there the next time you sign in, on this computer or another one.
Add or remove a widget
Who: Viewer and above.
- To remove one: open its header menu (the ⋮ next to the drag handle) and choose Remove from board.
- To bring one back: click Add widget above the board, find it in the list, and click Add. Add widget is disabled when every widget you have is already on the board.
Result: the widget leaves or joins the board right away, and the change is saved — no separate save step.
Resize a widget
Who: Viewer and above.
- Open the widget's header menu (the ⋮ next to the drag handle).
- Pick a size: Small, Wide, Tall, or Large.
Result: the widget takes its new size and the rest of the board reflows around it — saved right away, the same as a drag.
Reset the board
Who: Viewer and above.
- Click Reset to department layout above the board (it is disabled once there is nothing of yours to reset).
- Confirm.
Result: your saved order, sizes and removed widgets are all cleared, and the board goes back to the layout set for your home department — every widget your role and department can see, in the order and sizes an admin arranged under Settings → Departments. When the department has no layout of its own, the board comes back in the product's own order and sizes. Only your own arrangement is cleared: the department layout stays, and rearranging again starts from it.
